4-H Organizational Meeting
January 15, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Hi! The organizational meeting on the 15th is to learn about 4-H, see if it’s the right fit for your child and to let the children meet each other. Regular meetings will involve games, hands-on horse activities, crafts, and other activities aimed at increasing the members’ horse knowledge. Our monthly meeting will be on a weekday in the early evening and activities will take place on Saturday or Sunday afternoons. The Feb and March meetings will be at someone’s home and then, when the time changes, we will be meeting at Horses for Hope.
All members are going to have the opportunity learn about horses first hand by working with our mini horses! If they would like, kids will be able to go to the 4-H show in May and show one of the HfH minis. The minis are too small to ride and are shown in-hand. We will be learning how to show them at meetings and activity days. Members who have a horse or take lessons at a barn that will allow them to take their horses off-site will also be able to ride in the 4-H horse show.
We will also be forming a Horse Bowl (like Quiz Bowl) team that members can participate in if interested. They will play against other similarly aged 4-H teams to test their horse based knowledge. Members will also have the opportunity to learn to judge horses!
We will primarily be a horse club but we’ll support the members if they would like to pursue other projects. 4-H has well over 100 projects to choose from if they want to branch out. Some projects, like photography or financial literacy, could be horse focused if they wished while others, like bicycling or gardening, would be less likely to incorporate horses.
We want to make 4-H affordable for everyone. There’s no requirement to own a horse or take riding lessons. Dues will be $7 a month and will cover monthly meetings and most activities. I’m hoping to see you at our meeting on the 15th!
Happy Trails,
