Horses for Hope: A Journey of Compassion and Connection
Horses for Hope is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded in 2003, with a heartfelt mission: to use horses as a way to help individuals with special needs. What started as a dream from one woman’s deep personal experience has blossomed into a thriving, multi-faceted program that serves a wide range of people and offers a variety of riding disciplines.
The story begins with Gwen Roberts, who grew up with a mother battling Multiple Sclerosis. From an early age, Gwen was keenly aware of the unique emotional and financial challenges that families with special needs face. Having ridden horses since she was just eighteen months old, Gwen has always felt a strong bond with these remarkable animals. After the passing of both of her parents, Gwen decided to channel her passion for horses into something meaningful, dedicating herself to helping others who were facing similar struggles.
With the support of her best friend and riding partner, Dawn Guenot, Gwen set out to create a space where horses could provide therapy, joy, and empowerment to those who needed it most. And so, Horses for Hope was born.
What began as a simple idea has now expanded into a vibrant program offering a variety of lesson options for all skill levels. In addition to therapeutic riding programs that help individuals with physical, emotional, and cognitive disabilities, Horses for Hope provides lessons in a wide range of riding disciplines, including:
- Western
- English
- Barrel Racing
- Dressage
- Trail Riding
- Jumping
- And more!
Whether you’re a beginner looking to learn the basics or an experienced rider seeking to improve your skills, Horses for Hope offers a supportive environment for riders of all backgrounds and abilities.
Each day, Horses for Hope creates a space where riders can not only develop their riding skills but also build confidence, find healing, and experience personal growth. Thanks to Gwen’s vision and the ongoing support of dedicated volunteers and staff, this organization has touched the lives of thousands, helping them find strength and hope through their connection with horses.
